We're at a Crossroads
by Ira B
Monday December 01, 2008, 10:58 AM
When we drive to Carol's dad's house on Route 22 we always pass the Crossroads Cafe which has a lighted billboard advertising specials and a BYOB policy. We are usually skeptical about restaurants that are open for three meals a day, seven days a week, but since we live just a few minutes away and felt lazy on a rainy Sunday, we decided to give it a try.
Carol's dad, Earl, has not eaten there but when we asked him about it he felt it might be the kind of restaurant with not-so-great food and large portions.
Tucking a bottle of Chilean Carmenere into a bag, we jumped into the car and drove through the rain. When we arrived we noticed that there were quite a few cars in the lot at 5 p.m. though all of the spaces right in front were reserved for handicapped parking

Bacon, eggs and toast are part of the Early Bird special at JaMere's Restaurant.JaMere's Restaurant is the latest reincarnation at The Hershey Cafe, 709 Fishburn Road, Derry Twp.
The name was created when the owners, friends Mary Marshall and Jannelle Dissinger, merged their first names. (They took over the restaurant from Jannelle's parents, Daryl and Melissa Dissinger.)

OK the holidays are a time when half of the people are depressed because they don't have family to visit.....and the other half because they DO!
Perhaps that is too cynical an approach. Holidays are a time when you will get together with families and fortunately our family members are more fun than yours. Many have nicknames which I graciously supplied and all are willing to share their food with us.

Good news for those living on the East Shore: The former Lone Star Steakhouse at The Point Shopping Center, 4259 Union Deposit Road, Lower Paxton Twp., is being converted into Infinito's Pizza Pasta & Salad Buffet.
The family-operated chain owns buffets in Reading, York and Lancaster, serving about 16 varieties of pizza.

Turkey is not only served during the holidays, it is an affordable and traditional Italian meal that takes on many forms. Thigh meat is moist, full of flavor, and because of its versatility, it remains one of my favorite meats.
TURKEY TRAUMA: Don't lose your giblets! Here are ways to save the day
by BY SUE GLEITER, Of The Patriot-News

For weeks you've mapped out Thanksgiving dinner.
Lists are taped on kitchen cupboards, the refrigerator loaded with food and your house so clean it passes the white glove test with flying colors.

Artisan bread is baked in small batches, is not mass produced, has no chemical additives, and has as much in common with lifeless assembly line made bread as an Apple has with an Orange.
Top Ten Reasons to go to New Cumberland

Strip SteakWe have been attending many of the Metropolitan Opera's Saturday afternoon HD broadcasts at Penn Cinema in Lititz and we usually dine out afterwards. Despite a bit of snow, we found our way to New Cumberland and Scott's was right where Google said it was.
It is not exactly a fine-dining venue, but a bar with a dining area attached. Still, we were there and had the gift certificate so in we went.

I am not referring to The Holy Trinity in a biblical sense; I am referring to the base of carrots, celery, and onions that are used for so many Italian sauces, soups, and stews.
Hotel Hershey Brunch

They can't put you in a corner in the Hotel Hershey's Circular Dining Room. With its view of the gardens and its chandeliers, Tiffany glass windows and soft carpets, it is arguably the most beautiful dining room in Central Pennsylvania.
For my recent birthday, which fell on a Sunday, I felt that most good restaurants were closed so brunch seemed the most reasonable alternative. The Hotel Hershey is elegant and of course brunch comes at a price($39.95). While living in Hanoi we loved the Sunday brunch at the Melia hotel. That was the best ever and while we knew that this might not measure up we also knew it would be a pretty good meal. Even at the price, brunch in the Circular Dining Room costs less than dinner in any decent restaurant

Crepes are one of the most versatile and traditional Italian family dishes. They are used in appetizers, main courses, soups, and desserts. They are easy to make, store well and can be eaten warm or cold.
