    Fall Foliage
We asked readers to submit their favorite places to view fall foliage. Here are some of the responses. "My favorite spot to enjoy the fall foliage is the Lawn/Colebrook/Mount Gretna area along the Lebanon Valley Rails to Trails. I really don't like to walk too far and therefore viewing the leaves first hand is hard for me to do. However on this trip I experience close hand the beautiful golden, yellow, orange and red autumn leaves, feel the cool fall breeze, enjoy the late summer wild flowers, and I didn't have to walk into the woods or trail. I took a ride on a beautiful bench seated wagon with 18 other people and rode the trail for 1 hour, totally enjoying every minute. In fact I have done it annually for the past 3 years and highly reccommend it to young and old. This is the most lovely historic, scenic ride, that follows a country stream that you can imagine. This is my favorite fall foliage experience. The ride is P&C Wagon Tours in Lawn." -- Carol Ceresini "This photo is taken at Elk Lake, Pa. It is in northeast Pa.,Susquehanna County, near Montrose (the county seat). It could beconsidered part of the Poconos; about one hour from I-81, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton exits. Because this area gets a bit more rainfall than the Harrisburg area, the fall leaves don't go from green to brown. The mix of evergreens and hardwoods give a great variety of colors - the red of maples, the yellow of gum, and the gold of oaks against the deep green and silver firs." -- Eileen Hollowbush "I'd like to share a little-known secret about a tiny bit of heaven between Elizabethtown and Lebanon. About mid-to late October, the changing leaves are absolutely beautiful seen from a wagon ride by C&P Wagon Rides. The weather is usually crisp, clear and warm. Friends had shared this secret with us. It's a slow, enjoyable trip along historic Rails to Trails in a large, sparkling clean wagon pulled by a big, cool tractor. The owners, Carol and Paul Ceresini are very familiar with alot of the area's history and share many interesting facts with riders. Upon returning to their barn, where the wagon is kept, we are greeted with a delicious, home-cooked meal or simply s'mores, apple cider or hot chocolate, it's our choice. It takes about an hour or so to make the trip. It's a very family-oriented outing, fun for all ages and the Pennsylvania leaves are in glorious spendor. I recommend it for all!" -- Susan Cibort "The turnpike going home to Pittsburgh, Pa., the beautiful colors ... picture perfect." -- Lorain Payne "One of my favorite places to see fall foliage is right from the steps of the Milton Hershey School's Founder's Hall." -- Frances Civello "Wildwood Lake Sanctuary becomes a beautiful place in the fall when all the leaves change different colors of reds, yellows, and oranges." -- Paige Barbush "As a Shippensburg University student originally from 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia, fall is spectacular in the midstate region. I wish back home was the same, but it doesn't even come close. My absolute favorite place to look out and see the fall foliage are the ridges that surround the university. One thing I have found myself doing the last three years is running to the top of the football stadium just to look out on the mountains and breathe in the autumn air. A good time to view the mountain is in the evening when the sun is going down. If the clouds are the puffy kind, you experience the absolute beauty of the fall season. Just thinking about it makes me wish I could see it right now, and brings the scent of pumpkin spice to my nose." -- Dan Woodruff

    Scramble aboard a haunted hayride
Last year, we celebrated our first Halloween in our Carlisle neighborhood. We handed out candy to a veritable parade of costumed characters. It was great to see, after living in so many areas where kids either seemed to forget that the holiday was supposed to be fun, or whose parents were afraid to send them out at all.
